Someday I hope to run out of families to help. That is my Christmas wish. But for now, we have found 2 local Ottawa families whose Christmas wish is simply a future with their husbands.
This is John and Victoria. They gifted this world with 2 beautiful children (5 & 2) and this past fall were scheduled to move from Ottawa to Edmonton for a change of pace. But 4 days before they were to haul themselves and kids across our country, John, 33, was diagnosed with glioblastoma. They had sold their home. They had sold their vehicle. They had sold a large portion of their belongings and were going to start new near the rockies. Instead, they found themselves temporarily living in a hotel, purchasing a new vehicle, no jobs, waiting for a more permanent Air B&B to become available while they anticipated the start of John’s gruelling radiation and chemo regimen. They are entering a holiday season of unknowns with 2 tiny kids in tow. Tomorrow, the Slay Society will deliver them a Christmas tree (yup, they had sold all of that stuff for the move too). But after that, we want to keep helping with proceeds of our advent fundraiser.
With these fundraisers we have been able to help so many families in such big ways. Our Slay Your Way To The Holidays advent calendars shouldn’t be any different. This is Shawn and Andy. Best friends and husbands. (and about the 2 coolest guys you’d ever see. ) This past summer Andy was unexpectedly diagnosed with glioblastoma. A word that would send shock waves through both of them and their families. Their worlds, their lives, their marriage, would never be the same. And this year, their Christmas won’t look like the one in the second picture attached. Shawn became Andy’s full time caregiver and is doing his very best to manage the overwhelming fear and heartache without ever letting Andy see him as anything but a pillar to lean on. It’s a lonely and isolating feeling; hoping the person you love and lean on most in the world never sees you scared. The news since Andy’s original diagnosis has not been what they had hoped and Andy, only 41, has continued to decline. Now more than ever, and because it’s Christmas, these boys need our love and support. With all your amazing generosity we are able to help support this amazing family!! Thank you so much everyone!
